Bidders Announced for India's 3G, BWA Spectrums

Application for entry into the bid for India's 3G mobile and BWA (Broadband Wireless Access) spectrums ended on March 19, with nine and 11 companies, respectively, participating in the two categories, Reuters reported. For the 22 telecom service area of India, three 3G slots and two BWA slots will be auctioned. The 3G spectrum auction is slated to begin on April 9, and BWA spectrum auction will take place two days after the completion of the 3G auction.

The nine companies bidding for the 3G spectrum include: Aircel, Bharti Airtel, Etisalat, Idea Cellular, Reliance Telecom, S Tel, Tata Teleservices, Vodafone Essar, and Videocon Telecommunications. The 11 companies participating in the BWA auction are Aircel, Augere, Bharti AirteL, Idea Cellular, Infotel Broadband Services, Qualcomm, Reliance WiMax, Spice Internet Service Provider, Tata Communications Internet Services, Tikona Digital Networks, and Vodafone Essar.
